Take charge of your own journey with Christ as you draw closer to the Holy Spirit through study and fellowship. Check out these exciting Adult Life Growth opportunities at FUMC:

Sundays:
Old Testament Studies, led by Virginia Jensen, began on September 11th at 9:45 in Room 104. The first few weeks will be devoted to a complete review of Genesis through Malachi. This year's study will be on the
Deuterocanonicals/Apocrypha with emphasis placed on the History of the Maccabean Family. This is a great time for those who have not been a part of our group the past 6 years to join this study. There is no fee but you will need a copy of the Apocrypha. The Good News Bible's version is preferred. Please call Virginia (377-4729) with any questions.

Lectionary Bible Studies - The Lectionary is a short passage of Scripture that is used for public reading and often the passage which is read as part of various church worship services each week. Passages come from both the Old and New Testament. They run in three-year cycles; in which you cover the major thread of the Old and New Testament stories. This class uses these Scriptures as the basis for their weekly study. Led by Peg Boss, the group meets Sunday Mornings at 9:45 in the Library.

New Testament Study, The Gospel of John is led by Gregg and Becky Tallman on Sunday mornings in Room 106 at 9:45.
John's Gospel shows how the mighty Creator became a part of creation. Love propelled him to rescue and save those who were lost and to give us the gift of eternal life.
He is the Word, he is Jesus, the Christ. John's gospel is not a life of Christ, it is a powerful argument for the incarnation, a conclusive demonstration that Jesus was, and is, the very heaven sent Son of God and the only source of eternal life.  John heard Jesus. John could see him.  Scenes branded on his heart. Words seared on his soul. He had been there. The class will use the Life Lessons guide by best-selling author Max Lucado. This is a 13 week lesson beginning January 8th and ending April 1st. Each week will cover a standalone topic, so feel free to drop in at any time.

Disciple provides an overview of the entire Bible. Disciple is a dynamic, thematic approach to the Bible developed on the underlying assumption that people are hungry for the word of God, for fellowship in prayer and study, and for a sense of meaningful ministry as Christian disciples. This year's study will be Disciple 3, Remember Who You Are. If you took Disciple 1 last year, don't worry that we're leaving you out! After you've taken Disciple 1, the other 3 strains of Disciplecan be taken in any order. If you have not taken Disciple 1 in the past, we certainly won't exclude you from Disciple 3, but it's recommended that Disciple 1 be taken first. Disciple 3 began on Sunday evening, September 11, at 6:00pm in Room 106. Contact Gene Gerber with any questions.

During the Week:
Mondays

Made to Crave - Satisfying Your Deepest Desire with God, not Food by Lysa Terkeurst

In Made to Crave, discover how to:

  • Break the cycle of “I’ll start again on Monday,” and feel good about yourself today.
  • Stop agonizing over numbers on the scale and make peace with your body.
  • Replace rationalization that leads to diet failure with wisdom that leads to victory.
  • Reach your healthy goals and grow closer to God through the process.

Lead by Jan Fawcett, begins Wednesday, November 29 from 6:30 – 7:30 in room 105

Too Busy Not to Pray by Bill Hybels  6:30 – 7:30 in room 106 with Dorene MacVey.  There's so much going on-work, church, school, family, relationships: the list is never-ending. Someone always seems to need something from us. But time for God, time to pray, seems impossible to find. These studies are designed to help you slow down and listen to God. But they don't stop there! They also help you learn how to respond. As a result you will grow closer to God and experience the benefits of spending time with him.
