History
In the summer of 2007, a group from First UMC participated in a mission experience in North Omaha. While there, the group served meals, helped at a food pantry, and helped out throughout the city. Group members were reminded that in our own community there are people who need these same things. Teachers in this group talked about the students who rely on hot lunch programs at their schools. For some students, those are the only meals they get. On days when there is no school, there may be no food for them.
After we returned home, this group invited others to explore and plan how to meet the needs of those children who may not eat when school is not in session. We decided to create FLY (feeding Lunch to Youth and their families) during those times. Our first lunch was served during winter break of 2007. Since that time, we have grown to 12 locations and average 400 lunches a day.
FLY is supported by nine congregations, two volunteering corporations, and several financial supporters. FLY partners with Marion Christian Church as our secondary operational site. Congregational Partners: Marion Christian, Living Water UMC, Christ Community UMC, First Presbyterian, Echo HIll, St. Joseph Catholic, New Life, Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, and volunteers from a variety of other congregations.

IS this all that FLY will do? Nope. As we continue to grow, we dream of having multiple serving sites, math/reading help, parenting classes, financial budgeting assistance, program intern, and more.
If I have more questions, where can I go?
