Staff Parish Relations
The S/PPRC has some of the same functions of a personnel office or Human Resources department in other organizations. There are some legal and risk management issues for which the S/PPRC has responsibility. However, church leadership pushes us to focus our attention on God and away from “business as usual”. Even in the midst of meetings or crises, the S/PPRC must never forget they are part of the body of Christ, and they must always be aware of the mission of God’s church. The S/PPRC operates under God’s leadership in the tension between staff and congregational interest, which includes dealing with both the celebrations and disappointments inherent in any human family and church.
The S/PPRC has primary responsibility to work with staff so that the mission of the church is realized. The S/PPRC should have a clear understanding of your local church’s mission and vision, built upon the mission of the wider Church. Clear understanding of your church and prayerful listening to God’s direction will guide both the development of job descriptions and the assessment of staff.
