Adult Education and Discipleship

Purpose of Adult Education and Discipleship

The purpose of Adult Education & Discipleship is to provide opportunities for people to grow in their understanding of the Christian faith and deepen their commitment to Christ while continuing their faith journey.

Objective of Adult Education and Discipleship
The objective of Adult Education & Discipleship is to produce committed Christians - disciples of Jesus Christ who not only are informed by increasing their knowledge of God, but who also are spiritually transformed.  The result is people naturally living out their faith daily by serving God and their neighbors through acts of service.  Theologically, this is understood as the process of Sanctification, which we describe as our faith journey.
How Do We Meet the Objective of Adult Education and Discipleship?

Sunday Morning Classes and Small Groups

When and where do they meet?

Groups or classes meeting Sunday morning at 9:45 in Wesley Hall (lower level) or other specified locations on campus.  Members, friends, and visitors are always welcomed to attend these classes.  Feel free to try several classes until you find one that you like best and meets your needs.

How it works.

In Sunday morning small groups or classes, people get together to learn, support, serve and fellowship together.  They learn through Bible study, they support by encouraging and praying for each other.  They serve Christ and community by participating in mission projects together.  Finally they gather socially for fun and fellowship.  Through their participation in Sunday classes or small groups they learn, encourage, and challenge each other to grow or mature in their faith journey as part of our life together here at Marion FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH.

Home Based Small Groups

Marion FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH is in the process of establishing (expanding) a small group ministry in 2008 and 2009.

When and where - Home based small groups typically meet weekly at member homes throughout the Marion and Cedar Rapids area.

Who can attend – Groups consist of Marion FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH members, friends, and visitors and are formed based on common age, location, interests, stage of life, etc.

What Happens – Groups come together for Bible study, to serve in missions, pray for each other, and to gather socially for fellowship. Groups learn to support, encourage, and challenge each other as they take their faith journey together.  Our groups have an action bias in that we learn in order to grow closer to Christ and serve each other, our community, and missions around the world.

Participation - Currently, Marion FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH is starting our small group ministry but if you would like to participate in a small group or you have lead or are interested in starting a small group call the church office at 377-4856.   You can also contact our Director of Adult Education and Discipleship Jon Moss at 651-4883.
