Why First United Methodist Church??

I did not need to think very long on why I decided to join FUMC. After all, I had heard so many positive comments from co-workers and other people in the community. For me though, there was a different reason: I was spiritually thirsty.
I grew up attending a Methodist church in Cedar Rapids and you could find me every Wednesday night in the "Circuit Rider" youth program. But, after high school and into college, I let my religion slide. I always believed, but stopped going to church. Fast forward multiple years, a marriage, and two pre-teen daughters later, an urge hit. I was missing something in my little cozy corner of the world. That something was church.
I first attended FUMC at a 9:45 "2 Songs & a Sermon" service. That's all it took. I was hooked! I absolutely love coming to this church and look forward to serving the community. My faith and beliefs have always been there...now they have a home.

Ryan and I met in the summer of 2000. In early 2001, we decided that it was time to find a place to worship together and eventually a place to be married. We tried a few churches but they just didn’t feel right. A friend of mine had attended FUMC since childhood and recommended that we visit. When we walked in the door we were greeted and directed to the Sanctuary. I remember feeling very welcome and we were even invited back.
We now have two children and could not be happier with our choice to attend FUMC. We see the opportunities for our children as well as ourselves to grow spiritually. Over the past several years we have been involved in small groups, committees, Vacation Bible School and Powerhouse. Our son loves attending Sunday School and is looking forward to Vacation Bible School this summer. We look forward to the future opportunities to serve and praise God with FUMC.

We have called First United Methodist our church home for 37 years and know that by our participation here--and through the grace of Jesus Christ--we have come to know and flourish in our relationship with God. It is through worship, study, prayer and fellowship at FUMC that we have grown in faith and obedience.
The love, care and prayers of our church family have supported and lifted us during the good times and have brought healing and joy during times of adversity; and we love the opportunities we have to interact with and share love with God’s children of all ages. We also feel privileged to be a part of a congregation where God’s Word and Will come first and where we are encouraged to be “awake” to the opportunities He gives us to serve others.
We also love being in a Church where the pastors and staff those who attend are loving and so very welcoming.
